Preparation Courses

The Volunteer Preparation Course is informal and friendly but it is compulsory and there is a high attendance requirement. If you miss one session that can be covered but it’s more difficult after that. The course is led by two Coordinators and you will get to know other Volunteers on the course.

Our Preparation Course covers topics such as mental health, supporting parents, Step Up for School, safeguarding, confidentiality, communication and values and attitudes. The online training gives Volunteers the opportunity to learn the theory behind the topics at their own pace, and the face to face training days bring it to life with scenarios and discussions.

There will be lots of opportunities for questions and discussions around the topics covered. It does not include written work and there is no end test or pass mark.
