Family Group
Our Family Group runs twice a week in central Newark and is free to attend. We accept referrals from any agency working with a family, or families can self-refer. The sessions are supported by two Support Staff and a group of trained and experienced volunteers who will ensure families are welcomed, feel safe and have a positive experience.
Our Family Group provides a safe non-judgmental environment where families can make the first steps to making friends, getting support and accessing fun play activities. There is a variety of play equipment for all pre-school ages under 5 years old, as well as a craft table at each session, equipment for physical play, toys for imagination play, a baby corner, sensory play equipment, a book tent and song time. Free drinks and toast are provided to parents/carers and all children attending are provided with a free, healthy breakfast. Children and parents are encouraged to take part in activities together, which builds a positive interactive relationship and aids child development.
To refer a family to our Family Group, or make a self-referral please complete and return a referral form.
External Providers
We invite external providers into family group, to introduce new experiences and stimulate children’s creativity, expression, and confidence, and to encourage parental participation too. These include Mini Museum and the Open Doors team, both based out of the National Civil War Museum. Yoga and dance sessions.

Regular Outings
Here at Home-Start Newark we like to ensure our families have as much fun as possible. We host several outings per year; a summer one which usually involves a picnic and some animals, and of course a Christmas Party involving the man in the red suit!
We also have trips out to the local park together and other places of local interest.
All of our families and their volunteers are invited to attend.
Step up for School
We continue to work closely with Kay our SUFS Coordinator, to ensure that we develop activities jointly that will benefit the correct outcomes of; communication through language, playing collaboratively; sharing and taking turns, plus building parental engagement with their child’s learning.
