At Home-Start Newark, we rely heavily on the generosity and partnership of grant-making trusts, foundations, and charitable bodies across the UK. The vast majority of our income is generated through competitive grants, allowing us to deliver free, life-changing support to vulnerable families across the Newark and Sherwood district.

Home-Start Newark has been a trusted cornerstone of family support in our community for over 40 years. We work directly with families experiencing disadvantage, tackling interconnected issues before they reach crisis point.

• Mental Health & Wellbeing: Over 63% of the families reaching out to us require support with parental mental health, anxiety, and low mood.
• Social Isolation: 60% of our families suffer from extreme loneliness and lack a local support network.

Through our trained parent volunteers, twice-weekly Family Groups, and targeted services like Step Up For School, we deliver measurable, long-term impact that reduces pressure on statutory services.

The Reality of Our Funding Needs

Like many small, community-based charities, Home-Start Newark operates in an increasingly difficult financial environment. Rising operational costs, combined with the reduction of statutory public funding, mean that securing core running costs is a constant challenge.

While project-specific grants allow us to deliver targeted services, unrestricted and core funding remains our most critical need. Maintaining our central coordination, volunteer training, and essential infrastructure is vital to ensuring our doors remain open for families who have nowhere else to turn.
